On this Memorial Day Weekend, I hope everyone has a great time with the extra day off, enjoying whatever it is your plans entail.
As we honor service men and women who have fought for our freedom and way of life we most often think of the pictures on this slide – and rightfully so – all of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, who we have lost
It’s sobering to think about but we must also honor all those (numbering in the millions over time) who have come back with “invisible wounds” on this day as well.
Whether it’s living through the effects of trauma they witnessed on the battle field, through the Brain Injuries they’ve experienced being near explosions, or whether it’s the incredible number of veteran lives lost to suicide (still a whopping 22 per day), the sacrifices made extend way beyond those lost in war, alone.
Thank you to all those who have served and continue to do so. We know it comes with tremendous sacrifice of many forms. Please consider the following slides when thinking about the sacrifices that have been made, this weekend.
Amazing stat that over 90% of the cases of PTSD occur with non-servicemen/women. That means that those who serve us are not “broken” or “misfits.” They are one of us…they’ve just experienced trauma in an intense way that’s had a large impact. Let’s attack this issue together, instead of bucketing everyone. We all face challenges that affect our mental health – #SameHere🤙
