In a world experiencing a crisis of loneliness, there are few magical moments of global connectivity we need to cherish. This was one…

How many times in your life have you gotten chills because there was a shared moment of human connectivity, compassion, togetherness.

It doesn’t get talked abt much any more, bc there aren’t many examples.  I remember after 9/11, living in NYC, what that shared human connection felt like. Cars stopped for pedestrians to cross…ppl carrying heavy bags were helped by others…we went to find places to volunteer together, to help whoever & w whatever was needed.

In a world so divided right now, those examples seem like such a far time ago. There are “sides” & everyone seems to be on one or the other, on almost every topic.

I’m no music trivia expert, but the song “Someone You Love” – you’d have to have been living under a rock not to have heard it. It’s sung by 26-yr-old Lewis Capaldi from Scotland. It’s catchy…it’s a beautiful song. If you’d asked me to pick the singer out from a lineup before last wknd, I’d have no idea. Then this (from these slides) happened on Saturday.

Capaldi, who’d been very open recently abt 1) his MH struggles, & 2) his diagnosis of Tourette’s, had just taken time off – announcing on June 5th: “I need to take a moment to rest & recover, to be at my best & ready for Glastonbury, & all of the other incredible shows coming up so that I’m able to continue doing what I love for a long time to come.”

Glastonbury was THIS festival. And during his big song (& a few before) his voice started to crack – anxiousness, nerves, ticks, & THOUSANDS who know & love him/his songs, picked him up.

Imagine fans in sports could help someone struggling by coming on the field to take their pain & perform for them: countless examples after injuries or “mistakes” would’ve been so touching…but fans can’t come on the field. Here, the fans could lift the performer up…sing FOR him.

And Capaldi spoke WITH the crowd, thru the pain/awkwardness: “Glastonbury, I’m really sorry,” he said. “I’m a bit annoyed with myself.”

If you have lost faith in humanity, watch this video over & over. There are some amazing ppl in this world. We can care for & support each other…as one. Divisiveness doesn’t have to be the default.
