05/11/2022 Mental Health Awareness Month – This Month Needs To Be About Education

This month (although we’d all love it to be every month), needs to be about education.

There’s a lot of rah rah in May – things like “get in your self-care”…but not as much coming together arnd what we each have learned & how we can CHANGE the current system from those learnings, so that we can make things better for our community…& for future generations.

For 2.5 yrs, I believed in the myth above. I didn’t believe in it bc I thought it was gospel. I believed in it bc for so long it’s ALL the medical community & big industry educated us on, when we would go to certain docs, if we weren’t feeling well mentally.

Commercials showed us (& continue to show us) sad faces & gray clouds – becoming smiley faces & blue skies 15 second into 30 second commercials, once we took a pill.

Not that any of us believed it would be THAT easy, but think abt it when we’re younger & sick (strep, bronchitis, pneumonia) we take a miracle PILL called an antibiotic & in two days we feel great.  So, when we feel run down, achy & lethargic from our MH (similar symptoms), why wouldn’t we think the pill is the panacea.

I don’t want to bash meds for those for whom they work. When a med agrees w you, it can be a great periodic symptom management tool, to dampen those symptoms, & allow the energy & focus needed to do the work to heal.

But MH is not a single chemical in the brain being off. It entails the ENTIRE body. Vagus nerve tone, cellular inflammation, gut biome, amygdala function, meridian blockages, & on & on.

It pains me for folks not to know this & have to go down the path I did for 2.5 yrs thinking I was working my arse off, doing everything the “top docs” told me – trying 52 diff drugs & talk therapy to “balance my imbalance.” Didn’t work – & yet we’re marketed to that that’s “the gold standard.” Look anywhere & it’s those two.

I’m tired of ppl suffering unnecessarily. The articles I shared in Stories show unicorn apps treating us like: 1) experiments w how many drugs they can sell us & 2) customers over patients.

We’re humans, not cash registers, & we deserve to know what helps us heal & thrive. Let’s get out the REAL info.
