4/20/2023 3 Major League baseball players, 3 taking off for mental health, 3 week span between the stories. A trend noone is talking about

When it comes to sports & trends in health, the media’s ALWAYS been all over it.  The narrative they’re able to drum up – & even the fear they’re able to invoke, gets the eyeballs.  Want some proof?

Slide to the next page➡️: just a few I took from each of the 4 major leagues. In baseball it’s been the run of Tommy John surgeries on pitchers’ elbows. In football it’s been Turf Toe. In hockey it’s been concussions.  In basketball it’s been on cartilage damage & the need for micro fracture surgery.

The media does not allow a trend to go unnoticed in sports.

So then you gotta ask the question, why’s the media NOT highlighting the obvious trend in sports, of players taking off for their MH? Look at the evidence in baseball. You have 3 players: Daniel Bard from the Rockies, Austin Meadows from the Tigers, & now Trevor May from the A’s, all taking off – OPENLY to work on their MH…& you can’t find it in the title of an article of w major news outlets anywhere. Maybe they’ve course corrected since last nt…but want to keep me honest? Look at the 3rd slide➡️ you’ll see the results when I typed in all 3 players’ names in search. Only ONE outlet – not exactly of the size of the other major outlets – “Outkick” that picked up on this obvious trend.

Think abt the backdrop: a society struggling. We lost more ppl to suicide & overdose in the history of our country last yr: 100k+. Right now in the US if you’re under 50, your number 1 likely cause of death is overdose, & number 2 is suicide. So you have 3 players in the SAME sport, opening up abt prioritizing their MH in 3 wks, leaving a great example for others, given that backdrop, & NONE of these media outlets are highlighting it? You have to ask why. Is it ignorance? Is it purposeful? Is it a fear if they write abt it, they’ll be considered “one of the ‘them’ group”?

I dont think we can discount any of those possibilities, & I have my own theories I’ll keep to myself for now. But all this does is highlight the reality that WE need to SHARE these stories far & wide. We saw it can happen with the Dodgers story with Andrew Toles. Share & HEAL LOUDLY.
