Supporting Growth Beyond the Classroom

Empowering Students Through Growth

#SameHere Schools programs support students’ social and emotional development, and their sense of connection to the teachers, staff, and their peers. The #SameHereSchools program creates a cultural shift within schools, providing a safe atmosphere for students to express themselves openly and communicate when they are dealing with emotional or mental health challenges – whether they be originating at home, in school, or out in the community.  By helping change a school’s culture, together, we make it more acceptable for students to ask for help, and for teachers and administrators to recognize when help is needed – before there are verbal and non-verbal communication breakdowns and misunderstandings. A key focus is also the encouragement of proactively looking at our mental health, to take care of ourselves before problems may arise, just like we do with our physical health.

The SameHere movement and alliance recognize the complex nature of addressing stress, underlying trauma, and overall mental health in schools.  This program is primarily focused on mental health awareness, prevention, education, and positive culture development. We can partner with your school and/or district on the following initiatives below, and either start small, or build in a number of these initiatives at the on-set, so that an impact is being made throughout the entire school year.

Proactive Mental Health for Students

Program Overview

The #SameHere Schools program fosters a supportive culture for mental health awareness, prevention, and proactive care, encouraging open communication and emotional well-being across the school community.

This assembly (which can be held with one or multiple schools within a district) is led by a member of The Alliance, who shares their personal story of overcoming life’s challenges and how they reached out for help. They discuss the life-changing practices and healthy living habits that transformed their life.

The concept of #SameHere—the idea that "5 in 5" of us face challenges and that we all have a story—is woven throughout the assembly. This theme helps students and staff relate to each other and introduces a powerful, comforting message.

The assembly encourages schools to integrate this concept into their culture, proactively addressing students' mental health needs. Topics range from taking a break in class to managing challenging interactions in the schoolyard, and even feeling more comfortable asking to speak with the school’s mental health professional.

The Alliance member openly shares their own personal mental health struggles, demonstrating that everyone faces obstacles in life, and that it’s OK to ask for help. These assemblies challenge the common misconception that students who visit a counselor, take a break, or seek help are "weak." By doing so, they help normalize mental health care and promote a culture of support within the school community.

Unified Mental Health Language for Schools

A Comprehensive, Flexible Program

#SameHere Schools programs may be implemented with all of the activation points above, or schools/districts have the option to choose which specifics ones are most important and applicable to you.  We have worked with schools all over the country and even internationally, big and small, from elementary, private and religious schools, to large middle and high schools. The #SameHere Schools Program allows your school or district to have an umbrella message about mental health and wellness that puts everyone in the community on the same page, using the same language and concepts. We look forward to the possibility of working with you.

I just want to say THANK YOU so much for doing what you do. For some reason your seminar really stuck with me. It helped me make sense of a lot of things and made me feel heard and validated. It came at the perfect time. There’s so much beauty in what you do and I can’t thank you enough for spreading awareness.

Thank you so much for speaking tonight. After the event, our parents spoke about how they will make more of an effort to be open and voice ho they’re feeling rather than keeping it in, which is something they usually do not do! We are so grateful that you helped us to have this impact on our parents and peers!

We need SameHere Global now more than ever. Eric, you are doing an amazing job spreading awareness about the need to be aware, honest and open about mental health. As a School Counselor, I am inspired by all you do and hope to get a STARR Room one day at my school. Can’t wait to practice the various tapping techniques I learned today.

Wow the work you are doing is impacting so many lives and the #SameHere mission to {elementary school} children is beautiful! Thank you for what you do!

There are not enough hours in the week for me to have provided 1:1 counseling to all those in attendance {at a #SameHere Global event}. Intervention is always too little, too late compared to prevention…and yet in the several hours that we gathered together, it was clear that people universally felt less alone, more connected and dare I say it, more normal or OK.

Today's underlying message was so important and impactful... The importance of seeing our students and finding the underlying reason for their behaviors is key. …I know we say this all the time, but it is so true that if we do not deal with a child's social/emotional well-being first, all our efforts academically will, in the end, not matter. I am so proud to be working in this district where I can stop my lesson, break routine, and talk to my students. Yes, they are only 5, but that's where it starts. Using our words to express the deep emotions we are feeling is crucial.

You presented at my High School back in the beginning of the school year at Syosset High School. Thank you for sharing your story, it was truly inspiring and not a day goes by where I don’t think of your impact on the world of mental health.

WOW! As someone in the field for close to 15 years, I have seen many presentations on mental wellness. Your story and interactive break-outs exceeded my expectations and excited me to hear what you would say next.

Thank you for the inspiring presentation this morning, and generally, for the work that you do! I am a firm believer in the mind body connection and in the saying that there is no health without mental health. As an educator, promoting our students’ mental wellness is paramount in the work that we do; we need more people like you leading the charge!

Yesterday, the Umbrella Club hosted a Let's Talk lunch - a continuation of the workshop from Unity Day. ...the boy who spoke that day shared his story, and the club advertised ahead of time he'd be doing so. Come to listen, learn, ask questions or share your own story, the club advertised. Fifty kids showed up. About a dozen were boys. Another girl chose to share during the lunch. The whole thing was very powerful. A lot of momentum. Thank you again!
