Supporting Growth Beyond the Classroom
Empowering Students Through Growth
#SameHere Schools programs support students’ emotional development, self-regulation skills, and their sense of connection to their teachers, staff, and peers. #SameHere Schools creates a cultural shift within schools (building off existing foundations your school has already been establishing), providing a safe atmosphere for students and staff to express themselves openly and communicate when they are dealing with emotional or mental health challenges, at any level – whether they be originating at home, in school, or out in the community. By focusing on supporting your school’s culture, together, we make it more acceptable for students and staff to ask for help, and for peers to recognize when help is needed – before there are verbal and non-verbal communication breakdowns and misunderstandings. A key focus is the encouragement of proactively looking at our mental health – like we do our physical health – and taking care of ourselves before more serious problems may arise. There is so much opportunity in empowering a peer support network of ALL of your school’s stakeholders, to work as one unit. We begin that process focusing on the Foundational Roadmap Pillars, below, that work best, woven within the programming you’ve already been implementing:

Impact Throughout the School Year
The #SameHere Movement and our alliances recognize the complex nature of addressing stress, underlying trauma, and overall mental health in schools. This program is primarily focused on mental health awareness, prevention, education, and positive culture development across all stakeholders, and not singling out ‘the problem students.” We can partner with your school and/or district and either start small (with one of the Pillars above), or build in a number of these initiatives at the on-set of our partnership, so that an impact is being made throughout the entire school year.
Proactive Mental Health for Students
Program Overview
The #SameHere Schools program fosters a supportive culture for mental health awareness, prevention, and proactive care, encouraging open communication and emotional well-being across the school community. This is how we roll-out one, some, or all of the Foundational Pillars, above:
Each Pillar above is rolled out through three unique program vehicles: A) Presentation, B) Workshop, C) Implementation Session. This Launch Assembly - would be the "Presentation" portion of the first Pillar you'd be interested in bringing to your school or district. It can be held with one or multiple schools within a district. Using Pillar 1 as an example, it is led by a member of The #SameHere Alliance, who shares their personal story of overcoming life’s challenges and how they reached out for help. They discuss the life-changing practices and healthy living habits that transformed their life. They also discuss many of the misconceptions in the mental health space - misconceptions that separate and divide us, so that we can work around them and see through them, to unite us.
The concept of #SameHere—the idea that "5 in 5" of us face challenges and that we all have a story—is woven throughout the assembly. This theme helps students and staff relate to each other and introduces a powerful, comforting message.
The assembly helps schools to integrate this concept into their culture, proactively addressing mental health for all. Topics range from the best and most productive ways to take advantage of breaks between classes to managing challenging interactions in the schoolyard, and even feeling more comfortable asking for and seeking help.
The Alliance member openly shares their own personal mental health struggles (after seemingly "having it all'), demonstrating that everyone faces obstacles in life, that success does not insulate us, and that these challenges are universal to everyone in our school community. These assemblies challenge the common misconception that students who visit a counselor, take a break, or seek help are "weak." By doing so, they help normalize mental health conversations and promote a culture of connection, support, and peer advocacy within the school community.
Break-Out Sessions (delivered through Workshop settings) are tailored to each of the following groups, below, that your school/district may choose to incorporate (on top of the assemblies above). You can think of these as "Professional Development" workshops for staff and "Town Halls" for parents, that re-enforce each Pillar's "Presentation" portion from above, that you choose to bring #SameHere in, to work with you on. You may want to do one, some, or all of the following break out sessions (individually, or all together), to ensure messages are being re-enforced and specific topic areas are covered with the entire school community, for 1) Teachers/TA’s/Coaches, 2) Building & District-Level Administrators & Supervisors, 3) Guidance Counselors/Social Workers/School Psychologists/School Nurses, 4) School Security Guards/Custodians/Aides/Secretarial Staff, 5) Parents (typically done through voluntary night session "Town Halls" after work hours, and both in-person, with a video link option). Our preference is to work with these adults in the school community, before we do the assemblies with the students, above, even if it is just the day before. However, we understand limitations with scheduling.
Through our A) Presentation Assemblies, B) Professional Development Workshops, and C) Implementation Sessions to bring key concepts back into classes or offices, we teach the principles of the #SameHere Scale to establish a common language for check-ins, helping to cement the reality that mental health lives on a continuum, for everyone. Then, daily "Release & Rewiring Exercises" are taught to groups of teachers, administrator, and student leaders (selected by each school) for them champion with the full school population to reduce stress, promote emotional regulation, and raise overall performance. We call these exercises “STARR” Exercises (Stress & Trauma, Active Release & Rewiring). We deliver trainings (in these Workshop and Implementation settings) for these types of exercises directly with your school community. We also have STARR Exercise Courses, for leaders in your group to learn directly, in a self-paced format from the top experts in mind/body science and modalities. You can even access STARR Exercise Cards before we begin to work together. Taking it to the next step, we help schools build STARR Exercise “Gym for the Brain” rooms. We also have developed an app that is our "Train the Trainer" tool, so that the concepts we work with you on in each Pillar, and the "track and act" that comes with the #SameHere Scale Continuum, and STARR Exercises, is imbedded into your school culture.
The #SameHere Curriculum was developed by a panel of experts with decades of experience in both psychology and education. It educates students on the science of stress and trauma, their impact on specific physical parts of the mind and body, and how to recognize the signs and symptoms that signal the need for support. These concepts are re-enforced through the assembly programs and Pillars mentioned above.
The curriculum also demystifies mental health terminology, ensuring students understand what to look out for and how to address these concerns by asking for help.
While the curriculum covers these key concepts, its main focus is on the real-world challenges that everyone faces and how they can affect mental health.
The curriculum is interactive, featuring video clips from Alliance Members to reinforce important topics. It also includes illustrations, animations, and collaborative exercises to optimize learning and engagement. By involving Alliance Members, we help normalize these conversations, making it socially acceptable to discuss mental health in schools and with peers.
Additionally, the #SameHere Scale concepts are re-enforced as a tool for students and teachers to communicate more effectively around their emotional well-being. This can be accessed either through the curriculum itself or as the standalone app. The app allows teachers and students to track how they’re feeling over time (daily, weekly, monthly) and promotes open conversations about mental health. Schools can also request large #SameHere Scales to display in classrooms for more visibility.
The Pillars (in-person, assemblies and professional development workshops) and the Curriculum (in-class guided topics led by your teachers) complement one another, but do not have to be used together.
E) #SameHere Student-Led Mental Health Clubs where we work with a group of students that the school selects, as well as a board of at least one teacher/admin. selected by the school. Your student leaders are your biggest advocates for change, on an on-going, daily basis. They serve as your boots-on-the-ground change agents as you are continuing to shape your school's culture and climate.
Unified Mental Health Language for Schools
A Comprehensive, Flexible Program
#SameHere Schools programs may be implemented with all of the activation points above, or schools/districts have the option to choose which specifics topics (which Pillars and which formats) are most important and applicable to you. We have worked with schools all over the country and even internationally, big and small, from elementary, charter, private and religious schools, to large middle and high schools. The #SameHere Schools Program allows your school or district to have an umbrella message about mental health and wellness that puts everyone in the community on the same page, using the same language and concepts. Topics like L.I.F.E. Saver Suicide Prevention, Bullying, Social Media, and others are also available, beyond the main five Pillars. We look forward to the possibility of working with you.
