Had this one saved after seeing it a while back, just don’t like to post things for the sake of posting them. Usually it’s when a message relates to something happening in my life, that I share.
Got the awful news yesterday that a close family friend (he was one of my brother’s best friends growing up & they are still close) mom just passed away suddenly. To make matters worse, she’d been the long-time caregiver for that friend’s father (her husband), who’d been suffering with dementia.
Just think about it – you have a family member who’s suffering w a disease where their cognitive functions are diminishing day-by-day…another fam member is taking care of them, daily, bc everyday tasks are no longer simple…& it’s the caregiver – the one you thought was the rock, who was making sure everyone else was OK, who passes.
Life is hard to understand sometimes. Why? How? For what reason? And obviously these are questions we will never know the answers to. We hear “isms” like: Time is short – spend it w the ones who matter most. Or…Make the time to see the people who are important to you…as you just never know.
But to see it in a simple visual like this really hits home in a different way. Some are visual learners. Whatever amount of time that long line is on the top, that’s how we PICTURE our time available in our minds is left w someone. They (or we if we’re older) are probably gonna live till X yrs old…so that means we have that block of time. But if you look, it’s really only the times we see them – & often few & far between.
Candidly I feel this most w my friends right now. From childhood, college, work in diff cities from sports. I’m lucky in that I have a lot of ppl I can call friends. But the amount of times I actually SEE them is minimal. Group texts have replaced hangouts. Bc of remote work ppl don’t travel as frequently as they used to. Technology has connected us in some ways but disconnected us in so many more…
All I’m saying is, if ppl are important, set the date(s) & make the time. It’s easy to be busy. But we should prioritize the ppl important to us. That’s a big part of our own MH as well!
